Merry Christmas y’all! This long festive weekend, my family and I discovered a new joint we saw on Instagram and it turned out to be our best find for a long long time. Isn’t social media just the most amazing invention by mankind ever?!
East Bistro 东小馆 is a Dim Sum/ Tze Char restaurant opened by ex Lei Garden chef, Chef Tony Wong. Located in Sembawang – same row as the famous White Bee Hoon, we were lured to make a reservation after watching a video of their signature dish: Pao Fan 泡饭. Besides the claypot teochew porridge, we had a range of classic Dim Sum dishes and were surprised: they were actually good! In fact, even comparable with our favourite, Imperial Treasure Restaurant. Plus the prices were soooo reasonable, my family and I are presently obsessed with this place!
The Pao Fan at S$18 was a good deal! The rice crisps were crunchy and so addictive against the soft rice grains. The broth was just so fragrant. My sister and I could easily have a pot each. The Salted Egg Yolk custard bun or Liu Sha Bao, be careful, the liu sha will burst out before you know it.
Classic dim sums we had included: Po Luo Bun
Har Gaw $3.60: each contained two fresh crunchy prawns. We needed a second basket as half for each of us was inadequate.
Steamed Pork Ribs: I will return to East Bistro just for this. Not a fatty meat in sight, the addition of tau kee was simply delicious. Very good.
East Bistro was our best find in Singapore for a long long time. My family is already planning our return visit. That uber impressive Pao Fan and great dim sum at super affordable prices with NO service charge or GST (yet), go now!
