[Tokyo] Gontran Cherrier Shibuya

Ah Gontran Cherrier. Reunited less than a year later. The Chef behind Singapore’s Tiong Bahru Bakery but for anyone who has tried his namesake bakery, you know the Singapore bakery is incomparable.

On a cold rainy Sunday morning, my girlfriends and I headed for his Shibuya outlet for pastries to start our day. They did not disappoint. When one walks in to the triple-level cafe, one will be greeted with a pillar…

Check out this croissant! Cassis + chocolate + almond… -swoon-

Plus Chocolate Kouign Amann.

Then this came out of the kitchen so I made a swoop for it as Dairy & Cream posted it. Green Tea on the outside, Chocolate Hazelnut inside.

Walk further in for more pastries…

There were some special pastries for sale…

Look to your right for more pastries…

These are famous but my gfs were not interested. Bleh. Another trip is in order.

After 15 mins, we settled on these. 6 pastries and a curry tuna sandwich for three girls.

My favourite has got to be the outstanding Cassis Chocolate Almond Croissant. Gontran Cherrier’s croissant is always undoubtedly flaky and buttery. This croissant was no exception. Plus the cassis providing much needed tanginess.

His signature Mont Blanc tower revealed even more chestnut paste at the bottom. I need this pastry in my life daily.

The Green Tea Brioche revealed with Ferrero Rocher-flavoured paste within. What a sweet surprise.

Gontran Cherrier. Simply splendid.
